A loyal and heroic senior __dog is being credited with saving his owner’s life after their Philadelphia home caught fire Sunday.
Around 4:30 a.m. yesterday, Andrea Bulat’s __dog started barking. “Her dog, Che… the dog’s really protective of her,” neighbor Anthony Daly told WPVI Action News. “If you go past her house it’s ‘Bark, bark, bark, bark!’ and that kind of stuff.” But, neighbors said it was highly unusual for Che to bark so early in the morning. His barking woke them up, that’s when they looked outside and saw the flames and called for help.
When firefighters arrived, they found 10-year old Che, a Chow and Golden Retreiver mix, laying on top of Bulat, protecting her from the blaze. Both were unconscious.
“The dog stayed on her chest the whole time, which prevented her from being burned totally,” said another neighbor, Adele Butler.
Bulat was rushed to the hospital, where she is currently in critical condition with burns over 50% of her body. Firefighters revived Che at the scene with oxygen before he was taken to a nearby animal hospital where he’s being treated for smoke inhalation.
Veterinarians are unsure if Che will survive.
