Puppies crash a bachelor party in the woods

Bachelor parties have a reputation for debauchery, but this one has a decidedly softer side. A group of long-time friends from Vicksburg, Michigan, went to a cabin in the Tennessee woods for a long weekend of four-wheeling and celebrating bachelorhood one last time. They ended up rescuing a bunch of puppies.

It all started the first day in the cabin, when the guys were cooking bacon with the door open, said Trevor Jennings, one of the groomsmen. A __dog showed up at their door, lured in by the smell. The sweet __dog made frequent visits, happily and politely sharing their meals.

"After giving her food and water for a few days, we noticed she was protective of a certain area in the woods, especially at night," said Jennings, who has known the groom, Mitchel Craddock, since middle school.

They headed into the woods to investigate what the dog — quickly dubbed Annie after Little Orphan Annie — was up to. They found a deep den that the mom had made for seven puppies. The men pulled all the pups out of the den and brought them back to the cabin.

The puppies seemed healthy, but were dirty and full of fleas, so the guys headed off to the store for some puppy shampoo.

“We pooled a bunch of money to buy food and beer. After the third day, our beer fund turned into puppy food fund,” Craddock told ABC News.

After the guys gave Annie and all her puppies baths, there was no going back; the dogs spent the rest of the weekend hanging out with the guys in the cabin, Jennings said. When it was time to head back to Michigan, the dogs came along too.

All the pups found homes with either a member of the bridal party or extended family. Craddock's grandparents adopted Annie and one of her pups. Jennings has a cute brindle pup he named Gunner and the groom has a sweet cream pup named Brimmie. He said his bride-to-be was excited about him coming home with a new puppy.

“I proposed to her with our chocolate Lab, and now it’s our joke that for any of our big life events, we’ll get a dog."
