It’s the holidays! The time of year for families to gather together to celebrate traditions, share old memories, and make new ones. This year, as you surround yourself with family and friends, both two-legged and four-legged alike, remember there are millions of dogs in shelters, patiently waiting for a family of their own.
For some, this won’t be their first, second, or even their third Christmas behind bars.
We’re calling this the 12 Dogs of Christmas. The Dogington Post along with our friends at Wellness Natural Pet Food have joined forces to introduce you to 12 needy dogs in hopes that they’ll finally get noticed…and maybe get a home for the holidays!

Confetti’s Story:

“I’ve been really busy the past few months finally learning all about the world away from the shelter.
It has been really hard on me growing up here, and to be honest it left me with some fear and trust issues.
I’ve come a long way from the girl who was afraid of almost everything. Now I can walk with my friend through the park and not chase after bicycles. I usually just ignore other people, and even dogs that bark at me. I’m no longer terrified of motorcycles! And I’ve learned to behave nicely in the car. But new things can still scare me. Yesterday I saw a sign blowing in the wind and I barked and barked at it until I got to check it out
A few weeks ago I got invited to visit with some friends at their home. Everybody wondered if I could be a good __dog in a house since I’ve been in the shelter for so long. But I did great and my friends invited me back for a sleepover!
Afterwards they said that I was the perfect houseguest. I showed I am housebroken, obeyed the boundaries of the doggie gates, and was not destructive in any way. I even got to sleep in a bed. I was so relaxed that my friends had to wake me in the morning.
They told me that I am the most affectionate dog that they have ever had stay over, and they have had so many over the years. So please, consider giving me a chance to show my love and loyalty to you.
Love, Confetti”
Confetti’s History

She then languished in the shelter, getting more frustrated and unhappy by the day. Confetti was still a puppy, subjected to all the stress of a shelter, with not nearly enough of the socialization and enrichment that she needed. Her behavior deteriorated. She didn’t “show well”. This caused her to be further isolated, which only made her behavior worse. She was caught in a downward spiral.
Three months ago we started working with Confetti for a few hours each day, taking her out into the world, introducing her to everyday situations and helping her get over her fears. Confetti has made lots of friends at the shelter but is still looking for that special person that will give her a forever home.
Special considerations:
Confetti is a very active dog requiring plenty of exercise. A fenced yard is a must as playing ball is a favorite activity for her (she is great at fielding line drives, ground balls and even pop flies). She loves splashing in a wading pool or lake in the warm weather.
Confetti loves hiking and has an amazing sense of direction.
Away from the shelter environment, Confetti has learned to pretty much mind her own business. She is generally not reactive to other dogs or people. She will chase chipmunks, squirrels, etc. and track deer through the woods.
Confetti has enjoyed and benefited from walking and hiking with other dogs. However she has not done well in free-play situations with other dogs at the shelter so she should probably be an only dog. No cats.
Confetti remains wary of meeting strangers. It takes a couple of meetings to gain her trust, loyalty and love. She has come a very long way but needs your help to continue to build upon her progress.
Confetti’s perfect family or home:
The perfect situation for Confetti would be a calm home and big yard with patient, active and experienced owners who are willing to make a small investment in time for a big return of love and loyalty. No children.
