The 12 Dogs of Christmas: Meet Buster, Looking for a Family for Over 2 Years

busterhandsome

It’s the holidays! The time of year for families to gather together to celebrate traditions, share old memories, and make new ones. This year, as you surround yourself with family and friends, both two-legged and four-legged alike, remember there are millions of dogs in shelters, patiently waiting for a family of their own.

For some, this won’t be their first, second, or even their third Christmas behind bars.

It’s our Christmas wish that every __dog in rescue would find a home for the holidays, so we’ve selected 12 special dogs from around the country that have been overlooked time and time again. Some are senior dogs, some have special needs, and some are passed over for reasons we simply can’t understand – but, they all deserve to spend the holidays with a family of their own.

We’re calling this the 12 Dogs of Christmas. The Dogington Post along with our friends at Wellness Natural Pet Food have joined forces to introduce you to 12 needy dogs in hopes that they’ll finally get noticed…and maybe get a home for the holidays!

Meet Buster! (Also known as Buster Brown)

Name of Shelter or Rescue Organization: A Pathway to Hope, Hawthorne, New Jersey

Age: 4 to 5 years old

How long at shelter/rescue: He has been with our rescue since October 2014

Type/Size/Sex: Male Staffy/American Bulldog, 65-70 pounds

goofy

This goofy boy is always ready for belly rubs!

Likes: Buster loves giving kisses, taking naps, and exploring outside

Buster was an owner surrender to the shelter. His previous owner also rescued him from the shelter. He had lived with (and was surrendered with) a small __dog in his previous home. He’s a smart, fun-loving boy that gets along great with other dogs (as long as he’s not on a leash and isn’t trying to enjoy a special treat). His foster family takes him to the dog park often where he loves to play with all different sizes of dogs, especially the little guys! The very best way to get to know Buster is by checking out his many photos, videos and stories on his very own Facebook page, Adopt Buster. You’ll fall in love with his great personality and laid back style!

Special considerations: Buster lived in boarding for over 700 days. He is dog friendly and played out in the yard everyday. He is in a foster home with a Puggle foster brother who he goes to the dog park with. He can be a bit grumbly while on leash with other dogs. He seems to really like playing with puppies and small dogs. He does have a bit of guarding around bones, bullysticks, or super special items.

He does not react to dogs who show him any sort of aggression, he has been taken down by bigger dogs and always gets up with his tail between his legs. He would not be a fit for a home with cats. A fenced in yard would be a plus as he loves to play fetch. When taking walks he walks nicely in his harness and does not pull.

The perfect family or home for Buster: Buster would fit in a family with or without another dog. He would do well in a home with children who are a bit older as he is a 70-pound pup who likes to jump and can be a bit mouthy when excited. And, due to his tendency to be protective of special treats.

Buster will soon face his third Christmas without a family all his own.

Does Buster seem like the perfect fit for your family? Here’s how to begin the adoption process:

heartsimg_0342Buster is available through www.apathwaytohope.org. He also has his own Facebook page, Adopt Buster.

A Pathway to Hope conducts a vet check, landlord check (if applicable), phone interview, meet and greet (if you have another dog), a home check, and requires 2 references. Buster’s adoption fee is $300 which includes Buster being up-to-date on all shots, neutered and microchipped.
