It’s the holidays! The time of year for families to gather together to celebrate traditions, share old memories, and make new ones. This year, as you surround yourself with family and friends, both two-legged and four-legged alike, remember there are millions of dogs in shelters, patiently waiting for a family of their own.
For some, this won’t be their first, second, or even their third Christmas behind bars.
It’s our Christmas wish that every __dog in rescue would find a home for the holidays, so we’ve selected 12 special dogs from around the country that have been overlooked time and time again. Some are senior dogs, some have special needs, and some are passed over for reasons we simply can’t understand – but, they all deserve to spend the holidays with a family of their own.
We’re calling this the 12 Dogs of Christmas. The Dogington Post along with our friends at Wellness Natural Pet Food have joined forces to introduce you to 12 needy dogs in hopes that they’ll finally get noticed…and maybe get a home for the holidays!
Meet Max!
Name of Shelter or Rescue Organization: Rising Dove Rescue New York
Age: 2.8 years old
How long at shelter/rescue: 19 months
Type/Size/Sex: Male, Neutered, American Staffordshire Terrier, Medium Sized
Max’s Story:
At 13 months old, Max was surrendered by his owner to a high kill shelter. That’s when Rising Dove Rescue stepped in and pulled Max to give him a chance at finding a forever family.
Likes: his people, tennis balls, playing with water and mud, running and rolling in the grass, playing in snow, eating treats and giving kisses.
Dislikes: confinement
Special Considerations: Max is obsessed with the tennis ball and has dulled his teeth, he is reactive towards other dogs due to protecting his tennis ball and toys. Rehabilitation and professional training will be provided for a family wishing to help foster or adopt Max.
A fenced yard is preferred, and monitoring Max’s chewing on toys as he needs to have limited play time with chew toys.
Max’s Perfect Family: An experienced, active, loving and patient family with a large yard and currently no other pets is best for Max. He will quickly win your heart and be your best friend! Max loves to give kisses and spend time with his people.
Max will soon face his second Christmas without a family all his own.

Animals rescued by Rising Dove Rescue undergo an examination by a local veterinarian, are cleared of any medical conditions, and are fully vaccinated, spayed or neutered and microchipped before being offered for foster or adoption.
